Historic overview of Visys

Visys is a young Company founded in 2004.   We tend to call it a "young platform" as our seasoned principals and partners have a wapping 80+ years of veteran expertise in automated visual inspection, electro-optics and laser sorting.  During our careers, our engineers have pioneered the sector and have jointly built, designed, engineered and maintained more sorting applications than any other vendor alike.

Visys started its venture in optical sorting technology as an OEM-supplier. The mission: “deliver the most performing sorting solutions our clients require“ ... and we did : Our partners build, based on our technology, state-of-the-art sorting equipment. We are constantly developing new applications and technologies to support that strategy.

Many vendors have unrightfully claimed the ability of effective combined color-shape-structure...and more sorting, but we have really cracked this dilemma and shifted the ultimate sorting paradigm from analogue to digital.
  • A few decades ago, only humans hovered over assembly lines and performed complex tasks such as grading, seperating, sorting, inspecting with their hands and eyes. Increased costs of labor, consistency in quality, higher standards and safety made this work more and more demanding,.. and soon the first generations of automated machine vision systems were born.
  • Since the early ’50s many producers and sorters worldwide adapted to automated sorting systems mostly on the basis of single color sorting. Systems evolved and became more performing and leading producers and processors adapted fast to the new technologies driven by high Return on Investment (ROI).
  • From the ‘60s onwards, a myriad of sorting system vendors offer application-specific turnkey systems focused on defined submarkets. Most of these solutions are solo camera or color sorting based and claim some degree of structure and/or shape sorting. Although automated sorting is hugely adopted in today's world markets, many of these solutions are still expensive, are only 50-70% effective, lack scale and speed, demand huge maintenance efforts and offer inconsistent quality. On the other hand, increased demand from distributors and upstream producers led to everchanging and increased sorting requirements, beyond color.
  • In more recent global markets, consumers and processors want better sorted products which offer higher margins and better customer satisfaction. These market conditions led to the development of new technologies such as laser sorters.  The basis principle of laser applications can be traced back to the early 70s when the Belgian engineer Mr Billion filed his scattering patent and revolutionized the sorting industry by introducing a laser.  The machines his company introduced to the market were state-of-the-art for that time, but compared to today’s standards expensive, difficult to maintain and operate and limited in thresholding (borderline fine-tuning between good and bad product).
  • Intermediate no major improvements or big steps forward emerged until VISYS re-writes history with the announcement of a fully digital laser sorter, making the analogue age in sorting  the past and shifting sorting to an uncompromised combined color, structure and shape event.
